Monitoring methodologies and protocols follow the standards set by Conservation International's 'Tropical Ecology, Assessment & Monitoring' (TEAM) Initiative for long term tropical biodiversity monitoring.

CREES is currently using the following TEAM protocols:

Geo-referencing

Hand-held Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are used to ensure all data is adequately geo-referenced. All information, along with geo-referenced base maps and satellite imagery are used to show the geographical distribution of sample sites, in addition to effectively illustrating the diversity, abundance, biomass and community structure of keystone species and groups.

Database and Geographical Information System

The CREES database is based in MS Excel. Data will be made accessible via a Geographical Information System (ArcView or ArcGIS) to aid data interpretation. Database information will also be shared with the Center for Applied Biodiversity Science in Washington DC.
