The MLC operates a 'peke peke', which essentially is a dugout canoe with a 16hp motor. Although not as quick as some of the larger boats on the Madre de Dios river, it has the advantage of year round operability; even in the dry season when larger boats have problems with the low water levels.

The peke peke can comfortably carry six people and is ideal for early morning visits to the Macaw mineral lick upstream or for trips across the river.
