Salvacion, the region's capital,
is a small town with around 800 inhabitants. Salvacion can
provide communication, health care, material supplies, transport
services and accommodation.
Communications
An internet café, Hostal Denny, offers
an internet satellite uplink as well a satellite
telephone. (Telephone cards must be purchased in
advance.) There are 8 radio communication centres
that can communicate with Pilcopata, Paurcartambo,
Cusco and Lima.
Health
& Safety
Salvacion has 2 hospitals (one private
and one state owned), a well-stocked pharmacy and
4 alternative health posts in the local area. There
is an ambulance service that runs to the Manu Learning
Centre and doctors can provide emergency call outs.
Material
Supplies
Salavacion sells a variety of common
goods at high prices and can source specific items
from Cusco, although it is recommended to source
materials through the Manu Learning Centre.
Transport
Services
Cargo trucks, buses and local pick-up
trucks pass through Salvacion (albeit with no consistency)
and individuals may be able to secure transport
services to Cusco although we recommend that visitors
pre-book all transport requirements through CREES
at least two weeks in advance.
Accommodation
There are 3 hostels in Salvacion
that range in price and quality and generally have
vacancies.
