CREES offers volunteers the opportunity to participate in a number of projects at the MLC.

Volunteers with a background in an applicable field of science can apply through the Resident Naturalist Programme for subsidised accommodation. Resident Naturalists are welcome to submit proposals of their own.

CREES is constantly looking for new team members who can contribute their time, expertise and funds to our cause. One of the ways people can get directly involved is to participate in one of our volunteer programmes listed below.

Resident Naturalist Programme

What is the RN Programme?

CREES offers accommodation at the Manu Learning Centre for Resident Naturalists at subsidised rates depending on their skill sets and experience. Resident Naturalists can either focus on a project of their own or work on existing projects under the guidance of our Scientific Coordinator.

Who can apply to be a Resident Naturalist?

Successful applicants bring added value to the Manu Learning Centre above and beyond an enthusiastic commitment to work. Applicants must either submit a proposal for a project that they are qualified to implement or have experience or a specific skill that can be applied to projects being undertaken at the Manu learning Centre.

How much does it cost?

Accommodation Costs
Accommodation Resident Naturalists can expect to pay between $15 - $22.50 per night for accommodation at the Manu Learning Centre. This includes three meals per day and costs associated with CREES projects.

Accommodation is priced on an individual basis depending on length of stay, time of year, and the value that the Resident Naturalist will bring to the MLC in terms of skills and experience.

Transport Costs
The cost of transport to the MLC depends on RN's flexibility and comfort requirements. Although not recommended by CREES, RNs can travel on public transport to save money.

Other Costs
Other costs not included in the daily accommodation rate include:

  • Laundry
  • Internet Access
  • Alcoholic beverages, sodas, soft drinks, snacks, toiletries etc as required from the MLC bar and equipment store
  • Local fluvial & road transportation as personally required

Can I apply for funding?

RN's who require funding are encouraged to register their details with CREES. They will then be contacted in the event that CREES secures funding for a project that their application is suited to.

Peruvian nationals can apply directly through the CREES scholarship programme for full or partial funding. For an application form please click here.

Once your application has been approved you will be provided with a quotation. You will then be required to pay a deposit to confirm your placement.

Conditions of the RN Programme

  • Applications are accepted at the discretion of CREES.

  • RNs are required to commit to a minimum of a month's work at the MLC.

  • Resident Naturalists conducting their own projects agree to provide a copy of all information and data related to their project to CREES for their archives and grant permission to CREES to use this information for research and educational purposes as well as publish this information on their website.

  • Like all visitors to the MLC, Resident Naturalists are subject to the MLC's Code of Conduct and the CREES' standard Terms and Conditions.

Volunteer Programme

What is the Volunteer Programme?

CREES offers accommodation at the Manu Learning Centre for volunteers at reduced rates. Volunteers work under the guidance of the CREES' Projects Co-ordinator and MLC Site Administrator and actively assist in the research and community projects conducted at the MLC.

Who can apply to be a Volunteer?

Volunteers at the MLC are generally made up of gap year students and career breakers although all applications are welcome. Volunteers should speak either fluent English or Spanish, be in good health and fit enough to participate in physical activity. Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years old.

How much does it cost?

Accommodation Costs
Volunteers can expect to pay between $25 - $35 per night for accommodation at the Manu Learning Centre. This includes three meals per day and costs associated with CREES projects.

Accommodation is priced depending on group size, length of stay and time of year. All quotes are calculated on an individual basis.

Transport Costs
