This 2 week tour takes in the famous Manu Road before heading deep into the heart of the Manu National Park on this fascinating journey of a lifetime. This trip offers some of the best birding opportunities imaginable in one of the world's most biodiverse places, a must for any keen birder. Start in Lima before travelling to Cusco and the high Andes all the way down to pristine lowland Amazon, a truly memorable trip guaranteed.

During this tour, you will stay at the Cock of the Rock Lodge in the Cloud Forest, the Manu Learning Centre, Romero, Manu Tented Camp and the Manu Wildlife Centre - all these lodges have en-suite private bathrooms and hot water.

 

One night in the Manu National Park is spent at Campsite Aguaje - basic wooden huts with beds in and shared bathrooms no hot water.

 

We have twin or double shared rooms with en-suite private bathrooms and hot water.

 

Single rooms can also be booked but single supplement applies.

 

Meal arrangements are all taken in a communal dining area.

 

Communication is limited in Manu, there is wifi access between 7-9pm daily at the Manu Learning Centre only.

Itinerary
Day 1
Lima

Arrival in Lima. Overnight.

Day 2
Lima

Visit El Olivar Park, Pucusana, Pantanos de Vila, beautiful natural environments close to the city with some excellent birding opportunties.

Day 3
Lima - Cusco

Depart Cusco early and start the journey by road through the Andes and into the Cloud Forest, a unique environment that is truly breathtaking. Stop at Hauarcarpay Lake on the way out of Cusco, a great place to stop for breakfast and a brilliant birding spot. Pass by Paucartambo and Acjanaco ranger station along the way to experience some local culture and witness the spectacular views. Tonight you will stay at the Cock of the Rock Lodge. Meals served will be Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4 - 6
Manu Road (Cloud Forest)

Spend the next couple of days along the Manu Road staying at the Cock of the Rock Lodge.

Day 7
Cloud Forest - Manu Learning Centre

After a dawn breakfast we leave San Pedro at 1300 meters and spend the day birding slowly down to the comfortable Manu Learning Center at 500 meters.

Day 8-9
Manu Learning Centre

Spend time here walking out onto the trails behind the lodge, an early morning trip to the clay lick to eatch for Macaws, as well as taking a trip out on an oxbow lake for spectacular opportunities to see the Hoatzin.

Day 10
Manu Learning Centre - Romero

Travel deep into the Manu National Park today down the Madre de Dios river until you bare left onto the Manu River, this is a full day on the boat - incredible birding a long the river. Overnight at Romero.

Day 11
Romero

Spend another full day at Romero walking the trails spotting some fantastic wildlife, often Emperor Tamarins (endangered species) are seen around the lodge which are wonderful to see.

Day 12
Romero - Manu Tented Camp

Take a trip further up into the park towards the oxbow lakes of Salvador and Otorongo. Some wonderful birdlife can be seen, including the rare Orinoco Goose. Spend time out on the lakes birding as well as getting the chance to see the incredible Giant River Otters that live there. A rare and wonderful sight if you are lucky to see them. Overnight at the basic tented camp nearby the lakes.

Day 13 -15
Manu Tented Camp - Manu Wildlife Centre

Today take the journey back down the river out of the park to the Manu Wildlife Centre. Here spend the next couple of days viewing more incredible birds and the chance to go out to the Mammal Lick as well to spot the Giant Tapir - a unique experience something not to be missed. They have a canopy tower here which offers a great chance to get up in the canopy to spot some more rare and wonderful birds.

Day 16
Manu Wildlife Centre - Puerto Maldonado

Today take the final part of the journey back to Puerto Maldonado for your flight back to Lima.
